My recent drawings and works on paper re-order a visual vocabulary taken based on an archive of daily photographs I take of the urban landscape of southern California. Each work is a visual metaphor for how I experience the built world around me: the experience of one space is mediated by the experience of many others - as well as by media, history, and social context - and the over-arching understanding that arises is a gathering of both clear narratives and disjointed parts. In this way my works range from the collage of simple and clearly related and recognizable parts to dense, multi-layered conglomerations that grow with their own logic and tend towards abstraction.
