Breathe, A Drive-In Dance Event Created, Choreographed and Directed by Laurie Sefton
Created during the stay at home orders with rehearsals via Zoom Breathe will take audience members on a journey reflecting the past months of the pandemic, including the fear of COVID-19 and it’s potential attack on one’s breathing, the physical isolation of the stay at home orders and the protests of George Floyd’s death by suffocation.
Presented by The Original Farmers Market, LAUNCH LA and Television City with the support from the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs, the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, Council member David Ryu, CD 4, and the local arts and business community, Breathe is the headlining event of the 18th Annual TARFEST.
An original composition will be played live by composer Bryan Curt Kostors and will be transmitted directly to the audience’s cars via FM radio, which will allow the audience to listen as if sheltering in place with the comfort and closeness of familiar friends. Created with social distancing in mind, audience members will stay in their parked cars during the performance, safe and socially distanced from the performers and other audience members. The audience will have the opportunity to participate in the performance by lending their headlights to illuminate the dancers.
Performed live for a socially distanced audience in their cars, 10/2/2020. Created, Choreographed and Directed by Laurie Sefton. Original music composed and performed by Bryan Curt Kostors. Dancers: Ellen Akashi, Camila Arana, Ava Gordy, Leah Hamel, Dominique McDougal and Alejandro (Alek) Perez.
