Seismic Shift: Confronting Catastrophe
Catastrophes force us to confront how we live and to reflect upon our past and our future. The artists of Seismic Shift: Confronting Catastrophe respond to cataclysmic shifts due to natural or economic disasters, political policy, immigration, gentrification, and other occurrences by exploring how we process, critique, analyze or adapt to fundamental changes in our surroundings, beliefs or worldviews. This exhibition brings together a diverse group of artists from across California whose practices engage with destruction and processes of reconstruction.
LAUNCH LA, in partnership with Avenue 50 Studio, invites all California visual artists to submit work for a juried exhibition at Avenue 50 Studio, 131 N Avenue 50, Highland Park, CA, November 11, 2017 to December 2, 2017

Awards
4 Exhibition Awards:
2 Gallery Exhibition Awards - Two artists will share a one month exhibition at Launch LA's main Los Angeles gallery in 2018/19, with an opening reception and artist talk.
2 Online Exhibition Awards- prominent placement on the LAUNCH LA website for one month during 2018
Eligibility
Open to all California artists age 18 and older.
All fine arts visual media will be considered.
Artwork shown in prior juried exhibitions at LAUNCH LA is not eligible.
Work must be able to fit through a standard-sized door (80” x 35”) and weigh less than 50 lbs.
Framed 2D work must be wired (no saw tooth hangers).
Alternative display methods may be used only with the approval of LAUNCH LA, and the artist must supply any special hardware.
We reserve the right to refuse works not accurately represented by the digital images submitted.
Entry Fee
Each artist may submit up to 3 images for a non-refundable fee of $35. Detail shots count toward image total. Payment of fees is required to complete the submission process.
Entry fees may be paid by PayPal or check.
Send PayPal funds to paypal.me/launchla or james@launchla.org. Add a note with the artist's name to insure completion of submission.
Checks should include a memo with the artist's name. Make checks payable to and mailed to

TO SUBMIT: email to entry@launchla.org (subject line Seismic Shift) Include up to 3 images (300 dpi, max 1000 pixels on the longest side), image file name should include artist's initials and the image number. (Ex: emw 01.jpg, emw 02.jpg etc.) Jpeg, tiff, giff or pdf images. Links for video as appropriate for new media or installation: Youtube or Vimeo only.

Artists may include an optional statement of up to 200 words.
SALES
Sales are encouraged. LAUNCH LA retains a 30% commission on any works sold. Artists should include the commission in their sales prices. Sales tax will be administered by LAUNCH LA

SHIPPING & RETURN OF ARTWORKS
Artists will be responsible for all shipping costs. Shipped work must be sent with a prepaid return shipping label inside the package. We will re-use your packaging to return works. Make sure your shipping company will pick up at the gallery, as we cannot deliver packages to shippers. Hand delivered work will be ready for pick up on Sunday, Dec 3, 2017 between 10AM and 4PM Works not accompanied by return shipping and not picked up by the posted date will be donated to charity.
LIABILITY
Launch LA carries $?? art insurance for damage or theft, subject to a $500? deductible for which Launch LA will not be liable. Theartist agrees to abide by and accept theterms and conditions of the policy andto release Launch LA, itsBoard of Directors, Avenue 50 Studio, staff, volunteers,and agents from any further liability.
ARTIST COMMITMENT
By submitting work, the artist agrees that the work will be available during the exhibition dates listed, and will deliver or ship and pick up your work on the dates specified. Alternate work may not be substituted for work selected by the juror. The artist(s) grant Launch LA permission to use images of accepted works for public relations, marketing, and archival purposes

The Avenue 50 Studio is an arts presentation organization grounded in Chicana/o and Latina/o culture, visual arts, and the Northeast Los Angeles area. We seek to build bridges of cultural understanding through artistic expressions. We develop programming to inform our community through innovative projects that connect artists, students, academics, and members of the community.
